Into The Presence – ST
If the name Luis Carlos Maldonado doesn’t ring a bell perhaps Tim “Herb” Alexander does. These two talented individuals make up the core of Into The Presence and they deserve your immediate attention. Don’t expect anything Primus-like, but do expect straight forward tunes that rock in all the right ways and are instantly familiar. Maldonado’s voice sounds a bit like Cedric Bixler-Zavala’s (Mars Volta) but never gets as far out of control and ALWAYS goes right where he wants it to go. A few times you think he’s headed for disaster, but his voice is flawless. Other times especially when he slows it down he sounds more like Will DuVall (Comes With The Fall/Alice In Chains). One last comparison is to the late great Eleven and or Chris Cornell’s first solo album with Eleven as his backing band. Any one of the songs on their debut could be a huge radio hit but who are we kidding? The CD (and LP?) will be available at shows (check their site) and the album is also available digitally at the usual outlets. I look forward to hearing a lot more from this band.
